hey i need to summerize the first 25 pages in this book can somone body help me

You didn't mention how long your summary needs to be, but I can think of several things you should include in the summary.

One of the most important themes in the first 25 pages of the book is the prevelance of death in Chanda's young life, both in Bonang and her earlier home of Tiro. Although Chanda is only 16, she has already lost three of her sisters, her brothers, her father, a step-father, and others.

The pervasive poverty, and Chanda's mother's constant struggle to find a provider for her and her children is also a strong theme in the first five chapters. The need to be provided for causes a series of crises in their lives.

Chanda and her best friend, Esther, both dream of leaving Bonang and seeing the world. Esther is pinning her hopes upon gaining a tourist as a benefactor, while Chanda is hoping for an academic scholarship. I think it is also interesting that although both girls receive ridicule for their dreams - Chanda from her brothers, and Esther from Chanda herself - only Chanda's dreams are encouraged. Her mother and teacher both believe in her. Also, Esther's strategy seems as though it could set her up for some of the same pitfalls Chanda's mother finds. Chanda's dreams, if realized would empower her in a way the older women around her could never hope for.

In your summary, it would probably be important also to touch upon the differences between Chanda's two homes, Tiro and Bonang. Those two areas provide very different lifestyles.

Mr. Dube- the barber with rotten teeth (!!)

Issac- one of Lillian's boyfriends that molests Chanda

Mr.Selalme- Chanda's teacher who lends her books
