I need help with a book summary

It must be 3 pages, double spaced, times new roman, 12 point font.

Avoid the repetitive use of and then...

And write in the PAST TENSE.

do not use the word "a lot."

The last half page- to a page should be an epilogue.

Tell me what you learned from the book and also how life in Africa is similar/different to American culture.

Please put your carfeul thought and consideration into this.

What part are you having trouble with?

Your summary can't be very long, by the time you subtract the epilogue space from the three pages. Have you made an outline of what you think are the important parts to include in the summary. Writing an outline with one or two sentences about each chapter might help you get started on the summary portion.

What did learn from the book? Have you thought of any similarities or differences?

I would put the comments about what you learned from the book, as well as the comparisons with American culture, into the epilogue.

Yes, a two-page book summary is difficult for me, too. Have you looked at the chapter summaries here? That should give you a start on summarizing things. Your summary will need to leave out many of the details, though. You simply won't have the space for them. Also, your teacher will really be looking for more of a big-picture type summary.

The important points in chapter one are Chanda's age, some details about her family and living arrangements, the fact that her youngest sister has just died, and that Chanda is having to shop for a coffin. In the interest of space, you can leave out her sibling's ages - except for Sara's, which is probably important.

So, maybe something like this starts off your summary:

Sixteen year-old Chanda lived in the sub-Saharan town of Bonang in a country suffering from an HIV/AIDS epidemic. When her one-and-a-half year-old sister died, her alcoholic father and grief-stricken mother weren't up to the task, so it became her job to make funeral arrangements. Her family, including two younger siblings, didn't have much money, so she was forced to choose a cheap coffin for Sara.

That is a lot of information packed into 73 words, but you can't spend that much space for each chapter.

The important points in chapter two are that her best-friend's name is Esther, that Esther is an orphan, and that she hangs out with tourists, hoping to find a better life away from Bonang.

Remember, though, you won't be writing a chapter-by-chapter account of the book. The stuff about Esther can be slipped in anywhere. The fact that Chanda left the funeral home and went to look for Esther won't be mentioned in your summary. Esther doesn't even need to be mentioned in the second paragraph of your report. However, if you can get down some important points that you want to cover, it'll be much easier to make sure you've mentioned them.

Can you pick out the important points in chapter three?

yes, dont worry i have a paper due in.. 2 days on this too. i read it last year. but i just kept procrastinating and putting it off and so i dont really remember details. just the basics. it has to have an intro body and conclusion. I have to explain the significance of the book with my understanding of world history in general and or the specific event the book covered. It should be at least one paragragraph but most likely two. The whole paper should be 12 pt font and 1"margins. but only two pages.. at least not 3 :) umm. i need some help A.S.A.P. !!!!! i have to tell what time period in world history the book covers and or (dates and or/events) i have to list two important dates mentioned and explain what events took place on those dates. I also have to list the important historical characters named in the book and explain their roles relative to the book and/or events and dates.
