I just clicked on the "Look Inside!" icon, revealing a way-with-words so unique to Quiroga massacred by complete carelessness. I am able to find at least 2 errors per page; unfortunately that is enough to make me stop reading at the fourth page. I suggest you look elsewhere, which is what I will do. It's infuriating when "meses" gets turned into "mesas", and the vivid palette of images becomes blurred because "four months ago" simply cannot be replaced with "four tables ago".

I purchased this edition of the book as part of a reading list for my doctoral exams. The text is there, but the punctuation in the book is HORRIBLE! That is, there are no accents or tildes - which is unacceptable for Spanish (especially since the use or lack of these can change the meaning of a word)! In addition, by the end of the first page, I noticed errors in verb conjugations in the Spanish - if you are only seeking to read the stories and are not bothered by the distraction of grammatical errors and trying to figure out what tense the verb SHOULD be, then this is for you. However, if you are relatively proficient in Spanish, the orthographic errors are completely maddening and impossible to ignore. Clearly, someone was hired to type up the text - and from appearances, does not know Spanish - or how to use a standard keyboard to create international characters. Additionally, I am so put off that anyone would have such a lack of consideration and actually publish this and put it out there for the general public! It is a disgrace to Horacio Quiroga and to academics alike who value language and accuracy. Choose another edition! I gave this book one star for having text.... not worth the trouble.

Para aquellos que tuvimos la oportunidad de crecer en la selva y conocer sus misterios, personajes y fantasmas, Quiroga cobra un significado muy especial, pues quien conoce la soledad y el mundo que rodea ese entorno misterioso, donde la vida es frágil y la exposición al peligro constante, se empapa de lo posible a suceder.
El espectador citadino puede que vea con horror el mundo cruel de lo salvaje y sin embargo la ciudad no deja de ser más o menos igual, donde el grito se ahoga en la indiferencia del ciudadano.
Esta obra es una belleza, mueve los sentido y dispara la imaginación. Bravo por Quiroga

Back to the book , Quiroga goes to the american jungle and builds a superb puzzle where the outer atmosphere blends with syncronized perfection to the human soul , its little miseries , normal decadence and its unbeatable fellow trip : the greed .
Get close to Quiroga world and you will get surprised .
