Product Description

Breathe life into your nonfiction writing using the wisdom and advice in this inspirational guide every writer should own

When the poet Emily Dickinson wrote, "Tell all the Truth but tell it Slant," she provided today’s writers of creative nonfiction some sound advice: tell the truth but don’t become mere transcribers of day-to-day life. Artistic truth offers a depth and vibrancy that goes beyond the everyday. But how do we, as writers, move beyond cold fact to create elegant nonfiction that makes the most of our individual "slant" on the world we live in?

The award-winning authors of Tell It Slant stretch your writing muscles as they reveal the specialized art of creative nonfiction. Whether you are writing a memoir or researched essays, the authors will guide you along your journey, using intensive instruction and an abundance of writing exercises to show you how to:

  • Gain access to your own memories
  • Discover the stories around you
  • Find your particular voice
  • Look for material outside of yourself
  • Address ethical issues when writing about other people
  • Tackle (and enjoy) background research
  • Avoid clichés and discover fresh language
  • And keep the passion of writing alive--even when your well runs dry

    The Life You Share . . .

    Tell It Slant

Outstanding book for any one serious about learning the craft of creative non-fiction writing (memoirs, personal essays, nature essays, etc.). A large anthology section of successful writer essays and short stories further illustrates (by example) the various proven style formats, use of sensory descriptions, character development, effective use of dialog, and the like, covered within each easy to read chapter. Highly recommended.

"Tell It Slant" is a great learning tool

The best way to learn to write well is to read quality writing, and the pieces in "TIS" are very well-written and well-chosen to demonstrate particular elements of good writing.

Finally found this book after looking for it at a ton of different websites. Very cheap, came quickly. Good seller.

    Tell it Slant

I was very happy with our transaction. The book was here quickly and it was in good condition. I keep all my books so condition is important. I saved a few dollars by not purchasing my book at my college bookstore and that is a big plus too. Being able to pay by debit card is also convenient. An over all pleasant experience.

    Thank you
